I know that you come to me for in depth critical analysis’ of the television shows I’m watching and after hours of dedicated watching of new and returning shows I am ready to share with you my careful eval-

fuck it.

It’s all about the teeth, the noses, the romances, and other petty shit I love to obsess over.

So here are my quick and dirty thoughts on the shows I’m currently watching (in no preferential or particular order except how my mind throws them up for you):

Covert Affairs:

I have been fairly luke-warm about this show from the start.  I tend to turn to it when I don’t have anything else to watch.  At this moment I happen to be enjoying it more than usual.  I HATE the costuming for this show though.  Conservative and not flattering on the characters in my opinion.  That conservative look is not my thing.  I both like and dislike Auggie.  I just don’t believe in his blindness.  But I can’t say why.  So this season has interested me more than previously and I think it’s because of the Lena character who I love to hate and I really liked Simon.

Grimm:

Why are they torturing me?!  I’ve been without episodes for three weeks now and it’s driving me crazy.  I think this season is better than last season and my favorite thing is that Hank finally knows!!  I’m already tired of Juliette not remembering anything and I haven’t forgiven her for her reaction to Nick finally telling her the truth.  Hank is a way better partner to Nick than Juliette.  I admit I’m not a big Juliette fan.  My crush on Monroe continues to grow.  I’m LOVING his budding romance with Rosalee and I will be very upset if it gets crushed by jaded writers who can’t let any couples be happy.

Rookie Blue:

I think the season is over.  I HATE the way they left it hanging.  HATE it.  I’m really pissed at what’s-er-bucket for accepting the secret mission or whatever they’re calling it.  She totally fucked Sam over and I like Sam better than I like her.  Sam just pulled his head out of his ass and finally realized why he pushed Andy away and was all ready to make a fresh start.  She’s such a – grrr.  I want some good to come Dov’s way.  Let Gail suffer for a while – she’s been such a bitch from the beginning (to everyone).  I’m so so so horribly bummed about Jerry.

Castle:

YES!  FINALLY!  The first episode of the season was awesome.  I was going to stop watching the show if they didn’t bring Beckett and Castle together finally.  For real.  So, a note to the writers: you fuck up their relationship and continue to play games with me and I stop watching.  If you can’t write a show where the two leads are romantically involved but are still totally compelling – that’s an indication of your skills, not of what audiences will accept.  Remember Nick and Nora?  A few of my friends do not like the romantic angle of this show and don’t want these two to get together.  So I expect they aren’t enjoying the start of this season nearly as much as I am.

Bones:

I gave up on the show in season 6.  Season 7 redeemed itself for me.  The writers of Castle should take note!  I was worried about the baby angle since I am not interested in baby story lines at all but they’ve done it well and it hasn’t been annoying.  The murder solving part of the show is just as strong as ever – I’m still totally intrigued.  The first episode of the new season is a promising start.  Oh- but that wig Bones wears as disguise is HIDEOUS.

Revolution:

Apparently I’m a sucker for post apocalyptic shows.  I love the set on this one – I love the vision they’re creating – all that gardening and return to old timey living.  I was all set to enjoy this one until a friend pointed out how ridiculous a leather-clad militia is and how nearly the whole cast is also in leather.  I suppose one could argue that it’s easier to tan leather in a post apocalyptic world than to make other fabrics but once my friend mentioned this I can’t get past how silly it is.  Not sure how long I’ll watch this one.

The New Normal:

Quality of writing and acting is spotty – but this is fairly typical of new shows.  I am happy to see more gay couples being featured in sitcoms and I LOVE the Shania character who is clearly the true star of the show.  I want to see if this show picks up the pace in humor and storyline.

Saving Hope:

I love this show so far.  I was going to give up on it if the whole show is based on Charlie remaining forever in a coma.  The recent episodes have reassured me that it will not stagnate yet.  I can’t stand Maggie.  I think she’s amoral and fickle.  The only thing she cares about is herself.  I’m so bummed that Gavin is together with her – he was so much better off without her.  She’s totally going to use him up and throw him out.  I also can’t stand Joel.  I think Joel and Maggie deserved each other.  So who’s left to like?  I like all the other characters and I like the main storyline but am a little concerned that Alex is not going to believe Charlie when he tells her he can see dead people.  I’m concerned that this will break them up and then the ex-wife factor will become annoying rather than interesting.

Jericho:

I just started watching this on Netflix and am halfway through all the episodes.  Again – with the post apocalyptic theme!  I think the cast in this one is great.  The various secondary story-lines are interesting.  However, I love Hawkins and I am so stressed out by his story-line (is he good, is he bad?) that I think I have to stop watching this show.  Or go read all the spoilers.  I’m tired of him being suspected by everyone, rejected by his family, endlessly tangled up in a dangerous and mysterious intrigue that is starting to smell of smoke monster.  I am also disappointed that science girl Heather was sent away and Jake is now kissing dubious strangers while simultaneously pining for his old insipid flame.  I think that was a real missed opportunity – Heather was one of my favorite characters.  I do really like the Stanly/Mimi storyline but now Stanly is going away too.  Meanwhile I’m predicting that Dale and Skylar are going to become the new Bonnie and Clyde.  Best surprise of the show?  Dr. Dhuwalia.  Aasif Mandvi can act!  I love him on The Daily Show and I know he’s been in quite a few films/shows but this role really impressed me.

Guys With Kids:

Weak.  I love Jimmy Fallon who is the executive producer of this show but I think the writing is weak.  I’ve only seen the pilot so maybe it will improve.  I think the concept is good.  Dad’s with their kids is not brand new territory but a show based on the guy perspective of fatherhood and friendships is not widely explored.  Dialog and characters need much work.

Mob Doctor:

The premise is ridiculous.  Completely and outrageously unreal.  OR IS IT?  The mob is very real in this country and reaches into all kinds of crevices of life and business.  Why not through a doctor?  Here’s the thing, though, I can’t watch this show if the main character actually does harm to her patients on behalf of the mob.  Not even if she has to.  The tension of her position is good but how the writers play this out will decide whether I watch or not.  I do already like the main character and most of the supporting characters.  Also – I continue to love medical shows.

The Mindy Project:

Silly.  Kind of funny.  Not super funny.  Has some promise.  (If I squint my eyes.)  The only reason I even watched the pilot was because it had Bill Hader in it, one of my favorite cast members of SNL.

Ben and Kate:

I think this is a very promising show.  Where’s episode 2?  Is it already canceled?  Quirky characters without being annoyingly self conscious.  That was my first take on it.  I need to see another episode and I’m annoyed that I’ve been left hanging for a couple of weeks now.

The Promise:

I avoided this mini-series for weeks.  I’m not in a mood for heavy drama these days.  I finally watched because there were no other shows on to watch and though shocked by the real Holocaust footage in the first episode (wasn’t expecting that) the story is fascinating (makes me want to brush up on my Israeli/Palestinian 1940’s history), the characters are really strong and well played by a great cast.  Best of all is the footage of Israel.  It makes me glad I’ve been and it also makes me wish to go again.  I’m waiting for the last episode to come out and it is completely predictable that I’m pissed that Erin is so wishy washy that she’s hooked both Omar and Paul.  I want her to be with Omar.  Obviously.  If you’re watching this show too and you know me well then you would have guessed that.  The scene with the Jewish kids throwing rocks at the Muslim girls is hard to bear.  I hate the Meyer parents.  I love Erin’s Grandfather’s story and am totally on the edge of my seat to see what happens in the next episode.  I think I’m going to be depressed.  Normally this would be enough to make me not watch a show but there was so much richness here that it will be worth the inevitable low spirits I’ll experience following the end.  Oh, and all the cursing at human stupidity and evil.
