No, this is not all you get to eat on the local eating challenge. You can also eat tomatoes.
I’ll be talking about eating locally. I’ll give you some tips to make it easier and reassure you that eating locally doesn’t make you into an arrogant asshole. I will even have a power-point presentation. (Provided I can learn power-point in two days.)
Thursday, July 28th
7 pm in the Carnegie Room
McMinnville Public Library
Slow Foods Yamhill County is challenging its members to do a 2 week 100 mile diet challenge and I’m going to speak to them about my own experience doing the 100 mile diet for 10 months. I’m going to discuss my reasons for doing it, how I set my challenge up, what I learned and kept from the experience, and give some tips on finding out where things are grown. I will endeavor to refrain from passing out. I will also do my best not to throw up. (Have I mentioned recently my extreme – very common- phobia of public speaking?)
So if you’re local – come join me!
If you’re not local but you’re interested in the topic you can hop over to my food blog and read all about it in these posts:

Why bother with PowerPoint if you don’t already know it? It’s a tool; there are others, including hand-outs, chalkboards, giant post-it notes, posters, etc. Your preparation and practicing is more important than learning a program that people are so used to seeing misused to that it makes them not pay attention.
I so wish I could come and hear you talk. What fun it would be!!!
I had a look at it this weekend and it looks pretty easy. I want to be able to share photographs and I don’t have real slides so powerpoint is the best way for me to make a slide show. I’m not really worried about it. The Slowfood group has already prepared a helpful handout for the attendees. I don’t memorize anything anyway because it makes me a hundred times more anxious. I just create an outline of the discussion points I want to make and which order I want to make them in. This is a topic I have written about so much and talked about for so long it isn’t something I need to memorize. Doing the powerpoint presentation will help me organize myself and then I can share some good photos.
Sounds like you have everything in hand.
Oh I so wanted to come down for this…it is fair time and John’s birthday…darn. I know you will do just fine
Best Wishes,
You know your subject and your plan looks good. I hope you have a great time.
Kind Regards
